First of all I need to define what I believe beauty is. For me beauty is to have a healthy, functional mind as well as body and it doesn’t matter what size you come in or what skin colour you have. If you have a positive mind and your body works properly, you are beautiful to me! It is not only important to have a beautiful body but to also have a beautiful mind and more often than not, these two things are very much interrelated. I believe that our bodies go through so much stress every day in order to function properly so they need extra care to maintain themselves. I am no beauty expert or guru by any means but following are the things that I DO to take care of myself and stay beautiful!
1. Drink loads of water:
We all know how important drinking water is for our health. It is essential for all our bodily functions. If we don’t drink enough water throughout the day, we feel lethargic and worn out. But what we may not realize is that water is also very important for beautiful and healthy looking skin. To stay beautiful I drink plenty of water as staying hydrated ensures that your skin stays soft, healthy and beautiful looking. I keep a 2 litre bottle of water at my bedside table at all times as it keeps reminding me to drink water frequently throughout the day. Another thing I’ve done to make sure that I keep reaching for water again and again is that I have bought a pretty little glass to drink water in and I feel like drinking water every time I look at it. Drinking lots of water is also very helpful if you are dealing with bad acne on your skin because the more water you drink, the easier it is for your skin to get rid of all those toxins that contribute to having pimples. So anyone who wants to have a clearer, more beautiful skin, should start drinking more water since it will improve your skin enormously and make it look radiant and fresh!
2. Moisturize:
After you have taken care of your skin from the inside i.e. by drinking an adequate amount of water every day, you must turn to take care of it from without. Moisturizing your skin is so very important especially if you have dry skin like me. To keep my skin moisturized I use lotion all over myself after taking a shower. I also keep a bottle of lotion with me all the time and apply it whenever I wash my hands and face. I moisturize my feet at night before going to bed so as not to neglect them while taking care of the rest of my body. In short, to have healthy skin you must moisturize it regularly to help it retain its elasticity and youth for a really long time.
3. Exercise:
Exercising is very important when it comes to taking care of yourself. First of all, it keeps you active which is a major sign of youthfulness. Secondly when you exercise, your heart rate increases and that leads to the fresh supply of blood all over your body which gives your skin a beautiful, pinky glow from within. Moreover, exercising not only rejuvenates our bodies but also de-stresses our minds so when you exercise, you feel like all your worries have just left you. So I definitely recommend opting for exercising if you want to stay beautiful.
4. Wear gloves while doing dishes/ laundry:
This next tip is very important especially for those people who spend a lot of their time in the kitchen doing the dishes. Spending too much time in water deprives the skin of its natural moisture so it is wise to ALWAYS wear gloves while doing any water related chore. It is not only the water but also the chemicals found in the dish washing soaps or the detergents that we use for laundry that damage your skin and make it hard and rough. So it is highly advisable to protect your hands while doing these everyday chores that we obviously cannot avoid doing.
5. Use sunscreen:
Now this one is highly important both for beauty as well as medical reasons. Wearing sunscreen every time you go out in the sun protects you from all those harsh ultraviolet rays that are very harmful for our skin and can even cause skin cancer. Here in Pakistan, the summer season is usually very long and the Sun in summers is absolutely scorching so it is wise to keep yourself protected from the sun by using a copious amount of sunscreen whenever you plan to go out. I keep a bottle of sunscreen right there on my bedside table (now you can imagine how much stuff I have on my bedside table :D) so that I do not forget apply it whenever I go out in the open.
6. Regularly cleanse my face:
Wearing makeup, sunscreen etc everyday on your skin can clog up the pores of your skin. In order to keep your face free of pimples and blackheads, you must cleanse it thoroughly after taking off your makeup. Do not forget to ice your face after cleansing it because cleansing can open up your pores so it is better to ice it afterwards in order to close them properly or else you will end up having more skin problems than what you first began with!
7. Oil my hair regularly:
Our hair is a big part of our whole personality. If you have a beautiful skin but your hair looks frizzy and terrible, you simply wouldn’t look nice. So just as it is important to moisturize your skin, it also very important to moisturize your hair. I make an effort to oil and massage my hair at least once a week. I usually use Olive oil on my hair but sometimes use a mixture of oils to deeply nourish it. Using different types of oils is beneficial for your scalp and hair because each oil contains different vitamins and nutrients etc so it is good if you use different ones each time or create a mixture to apply it on your hair to keep it luxuriant forever.
8. Trim my hair regularly
Another very important way to keep your hair healthy is to give it a trim on a regular basis to keep it free from split ends. Trimming your hair also helps it grow faster. One thing that needs to be kept in mind though is that you must trim your hair with very sharp hair shears, the blunt ones do nothing else than damaging your hair even further. I own a pair of trimming scissors that I keep with me in my makeup bag and I NEVER use them for any other purpose because that would just make them blunt which would subsequently damage my hair. So it is advisable to give your hair a trim every now and then to keep it looking gorgeous.
9. Surround myself with the people I love:
The most important tip that I can tell you is to always surround yourself with the people that are appreciative of you and love you unconditionally. It is such an important thing and I cannot possibly stress it enough. If you accompany yourself with negative people all the time, they drain the very life out of by throwing unnecessary criticism and rude remarks your way. It is the best to block out such people from your life completely and if you can’t do that, at least avoid them as much as possible. People who are hurtful towards you usually own very ugly minds and simply cannot be helped with so it is better just to ignore them altogether. Spend your time with the ones that lift you up and fill your heart with happiness and hope. You will see how massively it will affect the way you look: you will certainly look beautiful!
10. Laugh out loud:
This is very much related to the last one and is also very important to look beautiful always. If you are always surrounded by people who you love and who love you, then you will never find a lack of reasons to smile and laugh. It is so important to sometimes not take life too seriously and allow yourself to be carefree and simply happy. So laugh out loud as much as you can manage because HAPPY you means BEAUTIFUL you!!
This is all for today! Hope you guys enjoyed my beauty tips. I will see you soon with another blog post, until then, Goodbye :)
